We are colleagues, not enemies’: DK Shivakumar clarifies meeting with Satish Jarkiholi

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday dismissed speculation surrounding his meeting with Minister Satish Jarkiholi, asserting that the two leaders are colleagues and that political engagements of this nature are routine.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar confirmed, “Yes, Satish Jarkiholi and I met last night at a wedding. We discussed state and party matters. We are colleagues — why treat us like enemies?” He added that political leaders frequently meet across different platforms. “We sit together during cabinet meetings, share lunch and breakfast. Friendships and relationships are a part of politics.”

He also revealed that he had held a detailed discussion with Industries Minister M.B. Patil earlier in the day. “We spoke for an hour about how to attract more investments to Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are giving us competition.

Telangana is hosting a global summit soon. We discussed how Karnataka must position itself globally. These discussions are normal when we speak about the state’s progress,” he said.

Hits back over corruption report, watch controversy
Responding to Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka’s comments regarding the recent Lokayukta report claiming 63% corruption in the state, Shivakumar retorted, “Poor Ashoka doesn’t even know which government the report pertains to. Let him read it first. He can raise it during the Assembly session — we will reply there.”

He also issued a sharp counter to opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy’s allegations about his expensive watch. “I have submitted every detail to the Lokayukta and other authorities. If I am lying, I will resign today itself. Will he resign if he is wrong?” he challenged.

Taking a further dig, he added, “Narayanaswamy lacks experience. One must have minimum knowledge before making statements. I act with responsibility, and he should learn to do the same. The affidavit submitted to the Lokayukta is a public document — he can verify it.”

Shivakumar said he has no objection to the matter being raised in the Assembly or anywhere else. “Let them discuss it across the country. I have shown the documents only because they alleged I stole the watch,” he said.
