Chitradurga, : A shocking incident of student assault by the head teacher at a Sanskrit Vedic school in Naikanahatti village, Challakere taluk has come to light. The student, originally from North Karnataka, was reportedly physically attacked by head teacher Veeresh Hiremath, causing severe distress. Locals revealed that the boy even attempted suicide following the assault.
Upon learning of the attack, villagers surrounded the school in protest and confronted EO Gangadharapppa. Allegations include that the teacher, unable to properly teach Sanskrit, instead resorted to cruel acts and abusive behavior, performing rituals while regularly harassing children. The incident occurred on February 10, 2025, and the student had gone to the nearby pond intending to end his life, but was rescued by a passerby. Subsequently, his grandmother brought him back from Appenahalli. The boy is now continuing his studies at Gudikote village school. Locals allege that the case had been deliberately suppressed to avoid public attention.
Muzarai Minister Ramalinga Reddy condemned the assault, calling it unacceptable: “This is a private Sanskrit school under our department’s purview. The attack on a nine-year-old student by the head teacher is intolerable. Instructions have been given to monitor all Sanskrit schools closely, even if no complaints have come in from other institutions.”
Following the revelations, DDPI Manjunath visited the school and assured that a report will be submitted to the district administration. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the teacher, and arrangements will be made for the student’s continued education. Tehsildar Rehan Pasha confirmed: “We are aware of the teacher’s inhumane behavior and will ensure strict legal measures are taken. CCTV installation and other safety measures will also be reviewed.”
The incident was registered at Naikanahatti police station under the supervision of Guru Tippeswamy Temple executive officer Gangadharapppa. After a video of the assault went viral, the teacher Veeresh Hiremath has been taken into custody by the police.
This case has sparked widespread concern about child safety in private Sanskrit schools in the region, prompting authorities to ensure stricter oversight and preventive measures.
