Rohit Sharma Retirement: Champions Trophy last series

Rohit Sharma Retirement: After India won the T20 World Cup last year, India’s One day International (ODI) and Test captain Rohit Sharma called it quits with a low profile. A similar move could be unleashed after the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan and Dubai.

Team India Captain Rohit Sharma has been out of form for a long time and reportedly came close to hanging up his boots in the Test format before he reversed the decision. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly asked the Indian captain to clarify his future plans after the Champions Trophy is over.

As the board is keen to chart the course for the 2027 ODI World Cup, clarity on Rohit’s future is essential. According to a report in Times of India, BCCI wants to initiate the transition in ODIs and Tests. The board is keen to find a stable leadership option in both formats, so Rohit has been asked to shed some light on his plans.

As for Virat Kohli, the management is open to waiting a little longer. “The selectors and people on board had this discussion with Rohit during the last selection meeting. They have been told that after the Champions Trophy they will have to decide how to plan their future.

The team management has some plans going into the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle and the ODI World Cup. They want to ensure that everyone is on the same page for a smooth transition,” the newspaper reported, quoting a BCCI source. Among the top Test captaincy candidates, Jasprit Bumrah’s name is at the top.

However, the pacer’s fitness could hamper his long-term leadership ambitions. Shubman Gill is another candidate but his form doesn’t inspire the kind of confidence the board would like.
