Bank Holiday: Banks to Remain Closed for 11 Days in October
Bank branches across the country will remain closed on 11 days next month due to national holidays, regional festivals, Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Bank branches across the country will remain closed on several days next month due to national holidays, regional festivals, Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays. In some states, banks may remain shut for up to 11 days during October. However, holiday schedules differ from one state to another, depending on local festivals and observances.
Major celebrations such as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Vijayadashami fall in October, resulting in multiple bank holidays across different parts of the country.
Customers should note that these branch closures will not affect digital banking services. UPI, ATMs, mobile banking, and internet banking will continue to operate normally throughout the holiday period. However, if you need to visit a bank branch for services such as cash deposits, cheque clearance, document submission, or other over-the-counter transactions, it is best to check the holiday schedule in advance.
The month will begin with a nationwide bank holiday on October 2, as all bank branches across India will remain closed to mark Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday. Customers with urgent banking requirements are advised to complete their branch-related work before this date.
The third week of October will see the highest number of festival-related bank holidays.
On October 19, banks will remain closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Imphal, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, and Shillong in observance of Dussehra.
On October 20, bank branches will remain closed in Gangtok and Imphal.
On October 21, banks will remain shut in Agartala, Karnataka, Gangtok, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram due to festival celebrations.
In Gangtok, Sikkim, banks will also remain closed on October 22 and 23 for Durga Puja. Since bank holidays vary by state and city, customers should verify the holiday schedule applicable to their location.
Sundays and Second & Fourth Saturdays:
In addition to festival holidays, banks will remain closed on their regular weekly holidays:
Sundays: October 4, 11, 18, and 25
Second Saturday: October 10
Fourth Saturday: October 24
As per RBI regulations, all scheduled banks across the country remain closed on these days.
UFBU Calls for Indefinite Strike from October 26:
Bank customers could face further disruption toward the end of the month. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced an indefinite nationwide strike from October 26, 2026, demanding the implementation of a five-day work week for bank employees.
If the strike proceeds as planned, branch operations and over-the-counter banking services could be affected across the country.
Despite bank holidays or a possible strike, digital banking services—including UPI, ATMs, internet banking, and mobile banking—are expected to remain available, allowing customers to carry out most essential transactions without visiting a bank branch.
