Honor Magic 9 Series Brings 200MP Cameras and Huge Batteries

Honor is preparing to officially introduce its Magic 9 series in China, with the launch scheduled for September 28. The company has already confirmed several imaging features, while detailed specifications of the upcoming phones have been reported through recent leaks.

The lineup is expected to include three models, namely the Honor Magic 9, Honor Magic 9 Pro Max and Honor Magic 9 Super Edition. Honor has not treated every specification as official yet, so some of the hardware details circulating online should be considered reported information until the launch event.

Camera technology is expected to be one of the biggest attractions. Honor has officially revealed that the Magic 9 series will use a dual 200MP rear camera system and has partnered with ARRI for its imaging technology. The company is also promoting a new 500mm teleconverter accessory aimed at long distance photography.

The standard Magic 9 is expected to be the smallest phone in the lineup. Reports indicate that it could feature a 6.37 inch flat LTPS display with a 1.5K plus resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Performance is expected to come from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The phone is also tipped to carry an 8000mAh battery with support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

The camera setup could make the standard model particularly interesting. Reported specifications include a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera and another 200MP periscope telephoto camera with 3.5 times optical zoom. A 55MP square front camera has also been reported.

The Magic 9 Pro Max is expected to move into a larger flagship category. It is reportedly equipped with a 6.8 inch LTPO display offering a 1.5K plus resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

The Pro Max is also tipped to use a newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme processor. Its battery could reach 8800mAh, with 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.

Photography is again expected to be a major focus on the Pro Max. Leaked specifications point to a 200MP main camera with a large sensor, a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera offering 3.5 times optical zoom.

Honor is also expected to bring advanced biometric security to the higher end model. Reports suggest that the phone could combine 3D ultrasonic fingerprint recognition with 3D face recognition.

The third phone in the lineup is the Magic 9 Super Edition, which is attracting attention mainly because of its reported battery capacity. Earlier leaks have pointed to an enormous 11000mAh battery, making endurance one of the defining features of the model.

The Super Edition is also expected to use a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor according to recent reports. Its charging setup has been tipped to include 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

There has been some variation between leaks regarding the Super Edition camera configuration. Earlier reports mentioned a 200MP primary camera, while another leak suggested a different configuration. This means the final camera specifications will need to be confirmed by Honor at the launch.

Honor has already revealed that the Magic 9 series will place strong emphasis on professional style photography. The company says the phones will bring ARRI inspired colour technology and cinematic features to the smartphone camera experience.

The company is also promoting a new 500mm teleconverter designed to help users capture distant subjects. A smaller 200mm teleconverter is also being offered as part of the photography accessories announced for the series.

Display technology is another area where the new phones are expected to receive considerable attention. The reported 120Hz panels across the standard and Pro Max models should provide smoother scrolling and animations, while the larger displays on the premium models will be aimed at users who consume a lot of video and other visual content.

Honor has also confirmed that the Magic 9 series will run MagicOS 11. The software is expected to bring new artificial intelligence features and improvements alongside the company’s latest flagship hardware.

Pricing information has also started to appear before the launch. The reported price for the 16GB RAM and 512GB storage version of the standard Magic 9 is 5999 yuan, although promotional pricing and other configurations may differ.

With large batteries, high resolution cameras, powerful Snapdragon processors and ARRI related imaging features, the Magic 9 lineup is clearly being positioned around photography and flagship performance.
