Hasanamba Jatre to Be Held From October 29 to November 11

The famous Hasanamba Jatre in Hassan is set to begin on October 29 and continue until November 11, with the district administration preparing arrangements for devotees expected to visit the temple during the festival.

Hassan Deputy Commissioner KS Lathakumari said preparations are already underway to conduct the annual festival with devotion and enthusiasm. The administration is planning arrangements while also keeping the drought situation in the district in mind.

The temple doors of Hasanamba Temple will be opened at noon on October 29. However, devotees will not be allowed to enter the sanctum for darshan on the opening day. Public darshan will begin from November 3 and continue until November 10.

The sanctum doors will be closed again on November 11 following traditional rituals, bringing this years temple darshan period to an end.

The festival is an important annual event for Hassan and attracts devotees from different parts of Karnataka and neighbouring areas. The district administration is therefore working on arrangements to manage the expected crowd while maintaining the traditional character of the celebrations.

This year, however, the celebrations are being planned against the backdrop of drought conditions. All seven taluks in Hassan district have been declared drought affected. Officials have said the festival will therefore focus on devotion and public participation rather than an excessively grand celebration.

Despite the difficult conditions, preparations are continuing to ensure that devotees can take part in the festival comfortably. Several committees have already been formed to look after different responsibilities connected with the event.

The administration is also planning a range of activities alongside the temple festival. These programmes are expected to give visitors and local residents an opportunity to experience cultural and literary activities during the festival period.

An exhibition featuring food and local products is among the programmes being planned. A Chitrasanthe, or art fair, will also be organised as part of the celebrations.

Cultural programmes and literary events are expected to form another major part of the festival. Organisers are working on activities that can showcase local talent and provide visitors with a wider festival experience beyond temple darshan.

Preparations for the promotional activities are also underway. District in charge minister KM Shivalingegowda is scheduled to release the Hasanamba Jatre poster and launch the festival website on September 26.

The website is expected to provide information related to the festival and help devotees access important details about the celebrations and arrangements.

For the district administration, crowd management and smooth coordination will remain important throughout the festival. Since devotees will be allowed darshan for several days, arrangements will have to be maintained continuously until the temple doors are closed on November 11.

The administration is also expected to coordinate the various committees working on the festival so that cultural programmes, public facilities and temple related arrangements can function without disruption.

Hasanamba Jatre holds a special place in the cultural life of Hassan. The annual opening of the temple draws considerable attention because the shrine remains closed for much of the year and is opened during the festival according to traditional practices.

This years celebrations will therefore combine the religious importance of the temple with a series of public and cultural programmes. At the same time, the drought situation has prompted the administration to adopt a more measured approach to the scale of the celebrations.

Officials have indicated that the festival will still be conducted with devotion, enthusiasm and public participation. The focus will remain on ensuring that devotees can have a smooth experience while respecting the circumstances faced by the district.

With the opening date approaching, the administration is expected to complete the remaining preparations in the coming weeks. The poster release and website launch on September 26 will also mark the beginning of wider public preparations for the annual Hasanamba Jatre.
