Karnataka Weather Update Warns of Heavy Rain in Several Districts

The southwest monsoon has remained active across Karnataka, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting more rain across several parts of the state from September 24. Coastal Karnataka and the Malnad region are expected to receive some of the heaviest showers, while Bengaluru could also see thunderstorms and periods of intense rain.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for several coastal and hilly districts as rain activity is expected to increase. The forecast is linked to atmospheric systems, including a low pressure area and associated circulation, which are supporting moisture over parts of Karnataka.

Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada are among the districts expected to receive heavy rain. Gusty winds and rough sea conditions are also possible along the coast. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea during periods of adverse weather.

The Malnad region is also expected to remain wet. Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan could receive widespread rainfall, with heavier showers possible in hilly areas. Rising water levels in streams and rivers are a concern in locations that receive prolonged or intense rain.

Chikkamagaluru is likely to continue experiencing active monsoon conditions. Areas around the Western Ghats, including Sringeri, Mudigere and Koppa, are expected to receive heavier showers. Cooler conditions are also likely in the hill regions, with temperatures remaining lower than those recorded in many other parts of the state.

Bengaluru is expected to see a cloudy sky, with rain becoming more likely during the afternoon and evening. Some areas could receive moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The possibility of water accumulation remains a concern for low lying parts of Bengaluru. Heavy rainfall over a short period can slow traffic and cause temporary disruption on busy roads, particularly in areas where drainage capacity is limited.

Bengaluru Rural is also expected to experience similar weather conditions. Residents travelling during the afternoon and evening hours may need to allow additional time because sudden showers can quickly affect road conditions.

Elsewhere in southern Karnataka, districts including Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Kolar and Ramanagara are expected to receive scattered moderate rainfall. The intensity may vary between locations, with some areas receiving only brief showers.

Hubballi and Dharwad are likely to remain partly cloudy for much of the day. Temperatures in the region are expected to remain around 28 to 29 degrees Celsius during the day and around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius at night. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder is possible during the afternoon or evening.

Gadag has also been experiencing rainy weather over the past few days. Scattered moderate showers are expected in parts of the district, with temperatures likely to remain around 30 degrees Celsius during the day and approximately 22 degrees Celsius at night. The rainfall could provide useful moisture for agricultural activities in areas where crops require additional water.

The weather pattern is expected to be less consistent across Kalyana Karnataka. Some districts may experience relatively dry conditions for parts of the day, followed by isolated thunderstorms or showers later.

Kalaburagi, Raichur and Ballari could see daytime temperatures between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius. The weather may feel warmer during the afternoon, while isolated showers are possible in the evening or at night in parts of Bidar, Yadgir and Koppal.

Farmers across the state have also been advised to keep changing weather conditions in mind while planning field activities. Crops approaching harvest should be moved to safer locations where possible, particularly in areas expecting heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are another concern during the forecast period. People should avoid standing under trees or near electricity poles during lightning and heavy rain. Drivers should also exercise caution on roads where rainwater has accumulated, especially in low lying areas.

Tourists visiting the Western Ghats and coastal districts are advised to remain alert as heavy rain can affect visibility, road conditions and access to some hilly locations. Streams and other water bodies can also rise quickly following intense rainfall.

The latest forecast indicates that Karnataka will continue to see contrasting weather conditions. While coastal and Malnad districts face the possibility of heavier showers, parts of northern Karnataka may experience warmer periods with isolated rain.

With the monsoon remaining active, residents are advised to monitor local weather updates rather than relying only on the overall state forecast. Conditions can change quickly during thunderstorms, particularly in Bengaluru and the hilly districts.
