Ganesh Visarjan Procession Passes Jamia Mosque in Maddur Amid Tight Security

The Ganesh visarjan procession in Maddur of Mandya district moved through the Jamia Mosque area amid extensive police deployment. Although tensions briefly surfaced when some participants attempted to burst firecrackers, police intervention helped prevent the situation from escalating.

As the procession approached the mosque, a group of young participants reportedly prepared to burst firecrackers. Police personnel attempted to stop the activity and take the crackers into custody, citing security concerns in the sensitive area.

The move led to an argument between police personnel and some Hindu organisation workers who were part of the procession. A section of the participants then sat on the road and raised slogans, including Vande Mataram and other celebratory chants.

Mandya Superintendent of Police Shobharani intervened personally as the disagreement continued. She spoke with the protesters and managed to convince them to clear the road so that the procession could proceed.

The situation eventually returned to normal, allowing the Ganesh idols to move forward without a major incident. Police maintained a close watch around the mosque and the surrounding streets throughout the procession.

The heavy security arrangement was linked to the sensitive history of the location. During last years Ganesh visarjan procession, stone throwing was reported near the Jamia Mosque, leading to a serious clash and requiring police intervention to control the situation.

Keeping that earlier incident in mind, authorities made additional security arrangements this year. Hundreds of police personnel were deployed around the procession route, while two D A R vehicles were also positioned as part of the preventive security measures.

Officials remained alert as the procession approached the mosque, particularly because the area had witnessed tension during the previous years celebrations. Police personnel were present at key points to regulate the movement of participants and prevent any confrontation.

Despite the brief argument over firecrackers and the protest on the road, the procession was ultimately completed without a major untoward incident. Once all the Ganesh idols had safely moved ahead, police cleared the gathering from the area and worked to restore normal movement.

The Maddur procession highlighted the security challenges that can arise when religious processions pass through sensitive locations. The police presence was aimed at ensuring that celebrations continued while preventing disagreements from turning into a larger confrontation.

For residents and participants, the peaceful conclusion of the procession brought the evening to an end without the kind of serious disturbance witnessed in the area last year. Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation during the remaining festival related activities.
