Xiaomi 18 Pro September Launch Confirmed With Rear Display

Xiaomi has officially started teasing the Xiaomi 18 Pro, confirming that its next flagship smartphone series will arrive in the Chinese market this September. The company has also shared an early look at the phone, giving fans their first glimpse of the rear design and a feature that could become one of its biggest talking points.

The rear display is once again at the centre of Xiaomi attention. The company has highlighted the way people used the rear screen on its previous generation devices, suggesting that the small secondary panel will not simply be a decorative addition on the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

According to figures shared by Xiaomi, users interacted with app cards on the rear screen around four million times last year. The company also said that users changed wallpapers approximately 3.5 million times every day. These numbers are being used by Xiaomi to show that the rear display has practical use for owners.

For the Xiaomi 18 Pro, however, the company appears to be preparing something different. A teaser shared on Weibo focuses on the word Generating, which has led to speculation that the rear display could receive new AI related capabilities. Xiaomi has not yet explained exactly what the reference means, so the final function of the feature remains unclear.

The rear panel shown in the teaser has a square shaped design with curved edges. A large camera module occupies the upper section, with two prominent camera sensors arranged vertically. Another lens appears below the main sensors but sits outside the primary camera arrangement.

A Leica branding mark is also clearly visible on the camera module, indicating that Xiaomi will continue its partnership with Leica for the phones imaging system. The LED flash is positioned alongside the camera arrangement.

The button layout can also be seen from the early design reveal. The right side appears to house the volume controls near the upper portion, with the power button positioned below them. Another button is visible on the left side of the phone.

Battery capacity could be another major upgrade. Recent reports have suggested that the Xiaomi 18 Pro may feature an 8000mAh battery. Xiaomi has not confirmed this specification yet, but such a capacity would represent a substantial focus on endurance for a flagship smartphone.

The camera system is also expected to receive improvements over the previous generation. With Leica tuning continuing and multiple large sensors visible in the first look, Xiaomi appears to be keeping photography as one of the main areas of the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

The companys previous Xiaomi 17 Pro also attracted attention for its rear screen, which offered users another way to interact with the phone. Xiaomi now appears ready to build on that concept rather than simply repeating the same implementation.

The September launch will put the Xiaomi 18 Pro among the major smartphone announcements expected during the month. While the company has confirmed the launch timing and shown part of the design, several important details are still missing.

Xiaomi has yet to reveal the complete specifications, pricing, processor, display information and exact capabilities of the rear screen. More information is expected to emerge as the launch approaches.

For now, the combination of a rear display, Leica camera system and a potentially large 8000mAh battery gives the Xiaomi 18 Pro a distinctive profile. The companys emphasis on how users interacted with the rear screen also suggests that Xiaomi wants this feature to play a more meaningful role in everyday smartphone use.
