iQOO 16 Set to Debut With Triple Rear Camera and 100x Zoom

The upcoming iQOO 16 is shaping up to be an interesting flagship smartphone, with the company revealing some important details about its design and camera system ahead of its expected launch. The phone is set to follow the iQOO 15 and appears to be taking a different approach to its rear design.

iQOO has shared images of the upcoming device on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The pictures show a flat rear panel along with a newly designed square shaped camera module. The company appears to have given considerable attention to the camera island, which features what iQOO describes as a robotic arm inspired design connecting the three camera lenses.

The rear panel is also shown with a hexagonal tech pattern underneath the glass finish. This gives the phone a distinct appearance compared with the previous generation. Text referring to a 100x tele lens can also be seen inside the camera module, pointing towards the phone focus on long range photography and zoom capabilities.

The camera system is expected to include three rear cameras. Along with the main sensor, the setup could feature an ultrawide camera and a periscope telephoto camera. The telephoto unit is expected to be responsible for the phones claimed 100x digital zoom capability.

While the company has confirmed several design elements, many hardware specifications are still based on reports and information surrounding engineering prototypes. Tipster Digital Chat Station recently shared details about a possible prototype, suggesting that iQOO could be preparing a large display and powerful internal hardware for the new model.

The reported prototype may feature a 6.85 inch Samsung display with a 2K resolution and a 165 Hz refresh rate. If these specifications make it to the final product, the phone could be positioned strongly toward users who want a premium display for gaming and multimedia.

Performance is another area where iQOO is expected to put considerable emphasis. The iQOO 16 could use a future Snapdragon 8 Elite series processor. Reports have specifically pointed towards the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, although this detail has not been officially confirmed by the company. The prototype is also said to include an Adreno 850 graphics processor.

The expected hardware suggests that gaming could remain one of the main priorities for the iQOO 16. The company has traditionally focused on performance oriented smartphones, and the reported combination of a high refresh rate display and a flagship Snapdragon processor would fit that strategy.

The phone could also include features designed to improve the overall gaming experience. Reports indicate that the prototype may have symmetrical dual stereo speakers and an X axis linear motor. The latter could provide stronger and more precise haptic feedback while using the phone.

Battery capacity is another area where the iQOO 16 could stand out. The engineering prototype is reportedly equipped with an 8500mAh battery. Such a large capacity would give the phone considerable endurance, particularly for users who spend long periods gaming, streaming videos or using demanding applications.

For security, the smartphone may use a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. This technology could provide faster and more reliable fingerprint recognition compared with conventional optical sensors, although the final specification remains to be confirmed.

The physical design shown in the company images also reveals a metal mid frame. The power button and volume controls are placed on the right side of the device. Combined with the flat rear panel and square camera module, the design gives the iQOO 16 a more structured flagship appearance.

The device has also reportedly appeared in the IMEI database with the model number I2601. However, an IMEI listing does not confirm a launch date or commercial availability. Companies can test different models and configurations before deciding which versions will eventually reach individual markets.

The iQOO 15 was launched in India in November last year, but the next generation model may not follow the same path. Reports suggest that rising memory chip prices could reduce the possibility of an Indian launch for the iQOO 16. This remains an expectation rather than an official decision from iQOO.

For now, the company has confirmed the phones distinctive rear design and highlighted its camera capabilities, while several major specifications are still based on leaks and prototype information. More details about pricing, availability and the final hardware are expected to emerge closer to the official announcement.
