Centre Brings Good News for FASTag Users: Switching Banks Is Now Easier
With the launch of FASTag Portability, users can now switch their FASTag service from one bank to another without replacing the existing FASTag sticker on their vehicle.

The Central Government has announced a major relief for millions of vehicle owners across India by introducing a significant change to the FASTag system. With the launch of FASTag Portability, users can now switch their FASTag service from one bank to another without replacing the existing FASTag sticker on their vehicle.
FASTag enables digital toll payments on national highways by automatically deducting toll charges when a vehicle passes through a toll plaza. Until now, users who wished to change their FASTag issuing bank had to deactivate their old FASTag, remove the existing sticker, and obtain a new FASTag from another bank. This process was often inconvenient and time-consuming.
To eliminate these hassles, the government has introduced FASTag Portability under a new initiative called ‘FASTag One’. The service was launched by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari during the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
Under the new system, vehicle owners can switch their FASTag to another participating bank while continuing to use the same FASTag sticker. There is no need to remove the old sticker or close the existing FASTag account before initiating the transfer.
The Tag ID, vehicle registration number, and the existing FASTag sticker will remain unchanged throughout the migration process. The new service has been jointly developed by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
How to Switch Your FASTag to Another Bank:
To transfer your FASTag to a different bank, follow these simple steps:
1. Download the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application.
2. Complete the Eligibility Check and verification process.
3. After receiving approval, select your preferred bank.
4. Your FASTag services will then be transferred to the new bank.
The balance available in the old FASTag account, pending transactions, and account closure formalities will continue to be handled by the previous bank.
The government believes this new portability feature will make FASTag banking services more user-friendly, reduce customer inconvenience, and ensure a smoother travel experience for motorists across the country.
