Shivamogga Police Launch ‘Beda Bro Ganja’ Campaign Against Drug Abuse
Shivamogga police have stepped up action against ganja networks while reaching out to students through a new awareness campaign aimed at making the Malnad region drug free.
The police in Shivamogga have launched a fresh campaign against ganja use and illegal sales, with a particular focus on young people and college students. The initiative, called Beda Bro Ganja, combines enforcement with awareness programmes to discourage drug use across the district.
Superintendent of Police Nikhil had earlier spoken about making the Malnad region free from drugs after taking charge in Shivamogga. Over the past few months, police teams have increased checks and raids in different parts of the district as part of that effort.
The campaign is not limited to arrests and seizures. Police officers, including SP Nikhil, are visiting college campuses and speaking directly with students. The discussions focus on the impact of ganja on health, education and future employment, while encouraging students to stay away from drugs and concentrate on their studies.
Action Against Ganja Supply
Police and excise officials are also working together to identify sources of ganja and disrupt its supply chain. Teams have been searching suspected cultivation areas, destroying cannabis plants and seizing dried ganja during raids.
Authorities are also keeping an eye on supplies coming into Shivamogga from other states and districts. According to the police, ganja is being transported through different routes, including buses, trains and private vehicles, with Andhra Pradesh among the areas linked to the supply.
The crackdown has already resulted in significant seizures. In a recent operation, Doddapete police reportedly recovered around 1.5 kilograms of ganja, with the seized material estimated to be worth between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
Focus on Young People
Police officials say growing drug use among young people can also contribute to other criminal activities, making prevention an important part of the campaign. Through Beda Bro Ganja, the department is trying to make students understand the longer term consequences of substance abuse before it affects their education and careers.
The police aim to expand the campaign and continue action against those involved in selling and transporting ganja. The broader goal is to make Shivamogga a drug free district, with enforcement and public awareness being pursued together.
