DK Shivakumar Gives Congress MLAs Strong Message at First CLP Meeting as CM
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged Congress legislators to stay united, prepare for upcoming elections, strengthen voter awareness and understand the growing influence of Gen Z.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar used his first Congress Legislature Party meeting as chief minister to deliver a firm message to party legislators, focusing on unity, election preparedness and stronger engagement with young voters.
The meeting in Bengaluru covered several issues concerning the Congress government and the party organisation. Shivakumar asked legislators to prepare for the Greater Bengaluru Authority and local body elections while also paying close attention to voter list revisions in their constituencies.
Gen Z needs greater attention
One of the notable points raised during the meeting was the growing influence of Gen Z. Shivakumar reportedly cautioned party leaders not to underestimate the younger generation and encouraged Congress workers to engage with young people more effectively.
He also referred to the political influence demonstrated by young voters and stressed the need to channel their energy through the party’s youth initiatives.
Focus on voter list revision
Shivakumar also placed emphasis on the Special Intensive Revision process and urged MLAs to actively help people understand changes related to voter registration and electoral rolls.
He warned legislators that failing to take the exercise seriously could affect their political prospects. The message was clear that constituency level work would remain important as the party prepares for future electoral battles.
A call for greater party unity
The chief minister also spoke about the transition of power within the Congress government and credited senior party leaders for helping maintain stability.
He acknowledged that many senior leaders were eligible for ministerial positions but could not all be accommodated. Shivakumar urged those who did not receive positions to remain committed to the party, saying that loyalty should not depend solely on holding office.
He also defended the governments record while responding to criticism from opposition parties. According to his remarks at the meeting, Congress leaders should face political attacks collectively rather than allowing internal disagreements to weaken the party.
Message to MLAs over local competition
The chief minister also reportedly expressed displeasure when newly elected MLC Malavalli Shivanna raised a question concerning the Kanakapura area.
Shivakumar told party leaders that they should avoid competing against one another over individual constituencies and instead focus on broader political goals. His message was that Congress leaders should think beyond local rivalries and prepare for competition on a much larger scale.
The meeting also saw newly elected MLCs being felicitated by the chief minister and other senior Congress leaders. Overall, the CLP meeting focused on strengthening the organisation, preparing for elections and ensuring that legislators remain active in their constituencies.
