Karnataka Weather Update Brings Relief as Rain Likely Across Several Districts
The weather department has predicted rainfall across many parts of Karnataka over the next five days, offering hope amid drought concerns with coastal and hill districts expected to receive heavier showers
After a prolonged dry spell raised concerns over drought conditions in Karnataka, the latest weather forecast has brought a measure of relief. The India Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre have predicted rainfall in several parts of the state over the coming days, raising hopes for improved conditions in rain dependent regions.
According to the forecast, many districts are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds between July 19 and July 23. Showers have already been reported in several areas, providing temporary relief from rising temperatures and dry weather that had affected the early phase of the monsoon season.
The most significant rainfall is expected along the coastal belt, where the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada have been placed under an Orange Alert. Weather officials have warned that these areas could receive heavy rainfall over the next two days. Strong winds over the Arabian Sea have also prompted authorities to advise fishermen against venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
The Malnad region is also likely to receive widespread rainfall during the forecast period. Districts including Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu are expected to experience light to moderate showers, which could provide much needed support to agriculture and water resources in the region.
North and South Interior Karnataka are also expected to witness changing weather conditions. Districts such as Belagavi, Bagalkote, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, and Raichur may experience strong winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour. Along with gusty conditions, scattered rainfall is likely in some interior areas, while other locations are expected to continue experiencing normal seasonal temperatures.
Bengaluru and surrounding districts are also expected to see cloudy skies over the next few days. The forecast suggests that the city and nearby rural areas could receive light to moderate rainfall during the evening or nighttime, bringing cooler weather after several days of limited rainfall.
The latest prediction comes at an important time, as several parts of Karnataka have been facing concerns over declining rainfall and emerging drought conditions. A fresh spell of monsoon showers could help improve soil moisture, support standing crops, and ease pressure on drinking water supplies in many districts.
While the forecast offers encouraging news, weather officials have advised residents in heavy rainfall areas to remain alert and follow local advisories, especially in coastal districts where strong winds and rough sea conditions are expected to continue for the next couple of days.
