Karnataka MPs Attendance Record Sparks Debate After Two Members Show Low Presence

Parliament attendance data from the Budget Session shows mixed performance among Karnataka MPs, with some recording high participation while two members faced criticism.

The attendance record of Karnataka MPs during the recent Parliament Budget Session has become a topic of discussion ahead of the upcoming Monsoon Session. While several lawmakers from the state maintained strong attendance, two Lok Sabha members attracted attention for their low participation.

Congress MP Radhakrishna Doddamani from Kalaburagi recorded zero attendance during the entire Budget Session. According to available data, he did not attend any of the 31 sittings held during the session. His representatives stated that he was unable to participate due to serious health issues affecting a family member as well as his own health concerns.

Belagavi MP Priyanka Satish Jarkiholi also recorded one of the lowest attendance figures among Karnataka representatives. She attended 13 out of 31 sittings, resulting in an attendance rate of 41.9 percent.

In contrast, several Karnataka MPs showed strong participation in parliamentary proceedings. Dr C N Manjunath from Bengaluru Rural, Dr K Sudhakar from Chikkaballapur and Shreyas M Patel from Hassan recorded attendance above 90 percent, placing them among the top performers from the state.

Other MPs also maintained relatively high attendance levels. Tejasvi Surya from Bengaluru South, Ramesh Jigajinagi from Vijayapura and Kota Srinivas Poojary from Udupi Chikkamagaluru recorded 87 percent attendance. P C Mohan from Bengaluru Central and Mallesh Babu from Kolar recorded 83.8 percent attendance.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar from Belagavi and Kumar Nayak from Raichur registered 80.6 percent attendance. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar from Mysuru Kodagu and Sagar Khandre from Bidar recorded 74 percent attendance.

The attendance figures of several other Karnataka MPs remained moderate. Basavaraj Bommai from Haveri and Dr Prabha Mallikarjun from Davangere recorded 67.7 percent attendance, while Sunil Bose from Chamarajanagar recorded 64.5 percent. B Y Raghavendra from Shivamogga and Govind Karjol from Chitradurga registered 61 percent attendance. E Tukaram from Ballari and Rajasekhar Hitnal from Koppal recorded 58 percent attendance.

The wider national attendance figures also show that maintaining consistently high attendance remains a challenge for many lawmakers. Around 45.76 percent of Lok Sabha members recorded attendance between 90 and 100 percent, while nearly 63.98 percent members had attendance above 75 percent.

With the Monsoon Session set to begin and discussions expected on important bills and financial matters, MPs attendance is likely to remain under public scrutiny as questions continue over parliamentary participation and accountability.
