Karnataka Cities Enjoy Better Air Quality as Monsoon Brings Cleaner Skies

Monsoon showers have significantly improved air quality across Bengaluru and several Karnataka cities with most locations recording good to moderate AQI levels creating healthier conditions for outdoor activities today.

The latest Air Quality Index report for July 18 has brought encouraging news for residents across Karnataka. Continuous monsoon rainfall has helped reduce pollution levels in Bengaluru and many other major cities, leading to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Experts say the rain has washed away a significant amount of airborne pollutants, resulting in improved air quality across the state.

Bengaluru continues to report favorable air conditions, with most parts of the city recording AQI values in the good to moderate range. The city’s average Air Quality Index is currently between 54 and 62, making it suitable for daily outdoor activities such as walking, jogging, and cycling. Weather conditions combined with regular rainfall have kept harmful particulate matter under control.

Different parts of the city have recorded slightly varying AQI readings. Banashankari is among the cleanest areas with an AQI of around 44, indicating good air quality. Basavanagudi has recorded an AQI close to 54, while Silk Board and BTM Layout stand at approximately 56. The Majestic and Railway Station region has reported an AQI of around 66, which still falls within the moderate category and remains acceptable for the general public.

Environmental experts attribute the improvement mainly to active monsoon conditions. Frequent rainfall and stronger wind movement have reduced the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 particles, two major pollutants that often affect air quality in urban areas. These weather conditions have also prevented pollutants from accumulating in the atmosphere.

The positive trend is not limited to Bengaluru. Several cities across Karnataka are also experiencing satisfactory air quality. Coastal districts and the Malnad region have recorded some of the cleanest readings in the state, with AQI values ranging between 30 and 45. Heavy rainfall in these regions has played a major role in maintaining fresh and clean air.

Northern Karnataka cities including Hubballi Dharwad and Belagavi are also reporting healthy conditions, with AQI levels ranging from 52 to 58. Although these cities continue to witness normal urban activity, pollution levels remain well within acceptable limits due to favorable weather.

Ballari, known for its mining and industrial operations, has recorded an AQI close to 60. While the city generally experiences higher pollution than many other districts, current readings indicate that air quality remains under control and is considerably better than during dry weather periods.

Health experts say the present conditions are beneficial for most residents, especially children, senior citizens, and people with respiratory issues. The cleaner atmosphere provides an opportunity to spend more time outdoors without facing the high pollution levels commonly seen during drier months.

Officials continue to monitor air quality across Karnataka through regular observations. If the monsoon remains active over the coming days, pollution levels are expected to stay low, allowing residents across the state to enjoy cleaner air and improved environmental conditions.
