Damaged Flyover Barrier on Tumakuru Road Sparks Safety Concerns Among Bengaluru Commuters

A damaged flyover barrier on Bengaluru’s busy Tumakuru Road has become a growing safety concern, with commuters and local residents urging authorities to act before it leads to a serious accident. The deteriorating structure has reportedly been left unattended despite visible signs of damage, increasing the risk for both motorists and pedestrians using the stretch every day.

The affected barrier is located near the Sandal Soap Factory flyover, a key route connecting Yeshwanthpur and Rajajinagar. According to residents, the concrete safety wall has weakened considerably and is now leaning towards the road. Exposed steel reinforcement bars can be seen protruding from the damaged section, creating fears that parts of the structure could collapse if immediate repairs are not carried out.

The location witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, making the condition of the flyover particularly worrying. Thousands of vehicles, including buses, trucks, cars and two wheelers, pass through the corridor daily, while pedestrians also use the area to access nearby commercial and residential neighbourhoods. Any structural failure at such a busy junction could pose a significant risk to public safety.

Commuters say they are forced to travel under constant anxiety because of the visibly unstable barrier. Many believe the condition has worsened over time without any noticeable intervention from the authorities responsible for maintaining the flyover. One regular commuter said people no longer feel confident while travelling on several city roads because of recurring infrastructure issues. According to him, there is always uncertainty about whether damaged structures will withstand changing weather conditions or heavy traffic.

Another motorist expressed frustration over what he described as delays in replacing the damaged safety wall. He said authorities should remove the weakened barrier immediately and construct a new one instead of allowing the problem to remain unresolved for an extended period.

They have urged engineers and civic officials to inspect the site, assess the structural condition and begin repair work without delay to ensure the safety of everyone using the road.

With the monsoon season bringing intermittent rain to the city, concerns have grown that prolonged exposure to moisture could further weaken the already damaged structure. Residents believe immediate preventive action is essential to avoid a potential tragedy rather than waiting for an accident to trigger repairs.

People living and travelling through the area hope the issue receives prompt attention, stressing that public safety should remain the highest priority. They say timely maintenance of roads, bridges and flyovers is critical in a rapidly growing city where millions depend on reliable infrastructure every day.
