Monsoon Improves Air Quality Across Karnataka as Bengaluru Records Moderate AQI
Monsoon showers have improved air quality across Karnataka with Bengaluru reporting moderate AQI Bagalkote recording the cleanest air and Belur showing comparatively poorer conditions among monitored locations today

Air quality has shown noticeable improvement across several parts of Karnataka as continuous monsoon rainfall helps reduce pollution levels. Bengaluru along with many other cities has recorded healthier air conditions in recent days, while environmental experts expect the trend to continue as long as the rainy season remains active.
According to the latest air quality data, Bengaluru recorded an average Air Quality Index of 67, placing the city in the moderate category. While the air is considered acceptable for most people, those with respiratory illnesses or heightened sensitivity are advised to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, particularly in areas with heavier traffic.
Among the monitored locations in the capital, Marathahalli and BTM Layout reported AQI readings ranging between 67 and 71, remaining within the moderate category. Silk Board near HSR Layout continued to experience relatively higher pollution levels due to heavy vehicle movement, making it one of the busier pollution hotspots in the city.
On the other hand, greener neighbourhoods such as NIMHANS and Jayanagar recorded comparatively better air quality. The presence of more trees and open spaces is believed to have contributed to cleaner air in these parts of Bengaluru.
Officials noted that PM10 particulate matter remained the primary pollutant affecting the city’s overall air quality. Even though pollution has reduced significantly, regular monitoring continues as weather conditions and traffic patterns can quickly influence AQI levels.
Across Karnataka, Bagalkote emerged as the city with the best air quality among the monitored locations. Belagavi and Ballari also maintained moderate AQI levels despite ongoing industrial activity. Bhadravathi recorded similar readings, indicating stable air conditions during the monsoon period.
Belur in Hassan district stood out as the only location where air quality was relatively poorer compared with other monitored cities. While officials continue to track local conditions, residents are encouraged to stay informed about daily AQI updates if they have existing respiratory or health concerns.
Environmental observers believe the ongoing monsoon has played a major role in reducing airborne dust and pollutants across the state. Frequent rainfall helps wash particulate matter from the atmosphere, leading to cleaner air and improved environmental conditions. If the current weather pattern continues, Karnataka is expected to enjoy relatively better air quality through much of the remaining monsoon season.
