UIDAI Lets Users Update Aadhaar Email ID for Free Through Aadhaar App

Aadhaar users can now add or change their registered email address from home using the Aadhaar App without paying any fee under a limited period digital service offer.

Aadhaar users no longer need to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update their registered email address. The Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced a new feature in the Aadhaar App that allows users to add a new email ID or replace an existing one directly from their smartphones. The service is currently available without any charge for a limited period, making the process faster and more convenient.

The newly introduced feature enables users to complete the email update process entirely through the Aadhaar App. According to UIDAI, the free service is available from July 1, 2026 until December 31, 2026. During this period, users can update their email details without paying any fee, provided they use the official Aadhaar App.

The digital service has already received a strong response from users. Government data indicates that more than 250000 people linked or updated their email addresses within the first 48 hours after the feature became available. The early adoption reflects the growing preference for digital self service options that reduce the need for physical visits to service centers.

Updating the registered email address is a simple process. Users first need to install the latest version of the Aadhaar App and sign in to their account. Identity verification is completed using Face Authentication. After successful verification, users can open the Profile section, choose the Update Aadhaar option and then select the Email ID Update service. By entering the new email address and submitting the request, the information is sent to UIDAI for processing. Once approved, the updated email address becomes linked with the Aadhaar record.

Registering an email address with Aadhaar offers several practical benefits. Important notifications, updates and service related communications from UIDAI can be delivered directly to the registered email account. It can also make future online Aadhaar services more convenient by ensuring users receive timely digital communication whenever required.

The introduction of this feature is another step toward expanding digital public services and reducing dependency on physical service centers. Users can complete the entire process within minutes from their homes using only their smartphones, making Aadhaar management more accessible and efficient.

Those planning to update their email address should remember that the free facility is available only until December 31, 2026. After the promotional period ends, UIDAI may revise the applicable charges or modify the service guidelines. Users who wish to take advantage of the no cost update are encouraged to complete the process before the deadline.
