The Ministry of Jal Shakti has opened applications for the Seventh National Water Awards inviting states districts institutions and industries to showcase outstanding contributions toward water conservation and management

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the Seventh National Water Awards and invited applications from states, districts, local bodies, institutions and industries that have made significant contributions to water conservation and sustainable water management. The initiative aims to encourage innovative efforts and recognize successful practices that support responsible use of water resources across the country.

Eligible applicants can submit their entries only through the National Awards Portal. The last date to complete the online application process is August 28 2026. The ministry has also advised interested participants to review the detailed eligibility criteria and guidelines available on its official website before applying.

The National Water Awards were introduced to promote better water governance and inspire communities and organizations to adopt sustainable conservation measures. Since their launch in 2018, the awards have highlighted successful projects that improve water resource management while encouraging wider public participation in conservation efforts.

The awards cover multiple categories to recognize achievements across different sectors. States, districts, urban local bodies, dam management agencies and industries implementing water conservation initiatives through Corporate Social Responsibility programs are among those eligible to participate. The awards also include categories related to water resource management, Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari and the Jal Jeevan Mission.

According to the announced framework, several awards will be presented across different categories and regions. District level recognition will be distributed among five geographical zones, while separate awards have been reserved for outstanding implementation of water management projects and impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the water sector.

The selection process will be conducted in multiple stages to ensure transparency. Applications received through the portal will first be evaluated by a screening committee, which will prepare a shortlist based on the prescribed criteria. The shortlisted entries will then be reviewed by a jury, whose recommendations will be forwarded for final approval by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti.

The winners will be honoured at a formal ceremony in New Delhi, where the awards are expected to be presented by the President of India or the Vice President. Recipients will receive a trophy and a certificate of recognition for their contribution to strengthening water conservation and efficient water management practices.

With water security becoming an increasingly important national priority, the ministry hopes the latest edition of the National Water Awards will encourage more organizations and local administrations to develop practical solutions that promote sustainable use of water resources and inspire similar initiatives across the country.
