The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its latest weather forecast for the state. According to the department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the coastal districts of Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada, prompting the IMD to issue a Red Alert for these regions.

light rainfall is expected in most districts today, except for the coastal belt and Malnad region, with cloudy skies likely to persist into the night. Bengaluru, along with most districts in South Interior Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka, is expected to experience cool weather accompanied by light to moderate rainfall throughout the day.

The Ghat areas of the Malnad region have been placed under an Orange Alert, with authorities advising motorists to drive cautiously due to the possibility of poor visibility, waterlogging, and landslides.

Persistent cloud cover and cool winds have led to a slight drop in daytime temperatures across much of the state. In Bengaluru, the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 27°C, with cooler conditions likely during the night.

Meanwhile, rough sea conditions are expected along the Karnataka coast. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea until further notice due to high waves and adverse weather conditions.

As of July 2, 2026, a rain holiday has been officially declared only for Dakshina Kannada district due to the IMD’s Red Alert and persistent heavy rainfall. The holiday applies to Anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, as well as Pre-University (PU) colleges.
