Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Karnataka’s coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, warning of extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions in view of the severe weather conditions. Continuous rainfall is likely to cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, a rise in river and stream water levels, landslides in vulnerable regions, and disruptions to road traffic.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, while residents in coastal areas have been asked to strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities and disaster management officials.
District administrations have stepped up precautionary measures and kept emergency response teams on standby to deal with any weather-related incidents. Decisions regarding the closure of schools and colleges will be taken by the respective district administrations based on local weather conditions and the evolving situation.
