Vahan-4 Technical Glitch Disrupts RTO Services Across Karnataka

A major technical issue in the Vahan-4 software has disrupted transport department services across Karnataka for nearly a week, affecting vehicle registrations, ownership transfers, permits, and other key processes.

Thousands of vehicle owners across Karnataka are facing difficulties as services at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) remain severely affected due to a technical glitch in the Vahan-4 software system. The issue, which has persisted for nearly a week, has brought several key transport department services to a standstill.

Vahan-4, the central government’s digital platform used for vehicle registration and documentation, is reportedly experiencing major server-related problems. Officials and applicants attempting to access the system are encountering frequent crashes and unresponsive pages, preventing the processing of applications.

The disruption has impacted all 70 RTO offices across the state, including 10 major RTO centres in Bengaluru. As a result, daily operations that depend on the software have been largely suspended, causing inconvenience to both citizens and transport officials.

One of the biggest concerns is the delay in new vehicle registrations. Individuals who recently purchased vehicles are unable to complete registration formalities, forcing many to wait indefinitely for services to resume.

Apart from registrations, several other important services have also been affected. These include vehicle ownership transfers, loan endorsement updates and cancellations, fitness certificate processing, address changes, issuance of duplicate registration certificates (RCs), and other documentation-related procedures.

Commercial vehicle operators are among the worst affected. Truck owners, taxi operators, and transport businesses requiring interstate permits are reportedly facing operational delays and financial losses because permit-related services remain unavailable.

Despite numerous complaints from the public, the issue has yet to be fully resolved. Many citizens continue to visit RTO offices daily, only to return without completing their work due to the ongoing system failure.

Vehicle owners and industry stakeholders have urged the transport department and senior officials to coordinate with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and address the technical problem on priority. They have called for immediate intervention to restore normal services and prevent further inconvenience to the public.
