Four children drown in chikkamagaluru village, one survives

Chikkamagaluru : A heartbreaking tragedy struck Chikkamagaluru district on Monday after four children drowned in a village pond at Aralaguppe. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rehman (9), Nayaz (12), Madina Banu (9) and Arun (8).
According to police, the incident occurred when five children went to play near a pond located close to their homes. With water levels reportedly low, the children entered the pond, but tragedy unfolded when four of them slipped into deeper sections and drowned. One boy, identified as Arman, was rescued and has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Officials from the local police station confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The sudden loss has left the village in deep shock, with grieving families inconsolable. Eyewitnesses said the children were playing near the water before the incident, highlighting the dangers posed by unguarded water bodies in rural areas.
Authorities have urged parents to be vigilant and advised local bodies to take preventive measures such as fencing ponds and installing warning signs to avoid such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the district administration is expected to review safety measures around water bodies to prevent similar tragedies.
