Weekly ‘Nanna Khata’ camps to address property issues in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a major push to streamline property documentation, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has announced the launch of the ‘Nanna Khata’ movement from May 16 across the Greater Bengaluru Area.

Speaking at a press meet at Vidhana Soudha, he said the campaign will be held every Saturday with an aim to directly resolve citizens’ grievances related to e-Khata and property records. “We will open 50 counters in selected government and private school premises. Each counter will cater to 100 pre-registered citizens, and we expect to assist around 5,000 people every Saturday,” he said.

According to him, most cases will be resolved on the spot. Applications requiring further verification will be processed after field inspections and cleared within 15 days.

Providing an update on the e-Khata rollout, Shivakumar said over 23 lakh property owners have been covered so far. “About 13 lakh e-Khatas were generated in a single day and sent through SMS and WhatsApp. The system automatically updates ownership details based on registered transactions,” he explained.

He added that citizens can make corrections online for most entries, while mutation-related approvals will be auto-cleared within five working days.

Describing the initiative as part of a broader governance reform, he termed it the “sixth guarantee” — Bhoomi Guarantee — focused on protecting property ownership rights. Over 13 lakh land records have been digitised under the Bhoomi project, he said.

On regularisation, Shivakumar said around 7,000 ‘B Khata’ properties have been identified as eligible for conversion to ‘A Khata’, with thousands of applications already approved. Fresh applications will be disposed of within 15 days.

He also noted that apartments with Occupancy Certificates have been granted group e-Khatas, benefiting over 37,000 flat owners.

To improve accessibility, 10 GBA GSK centres have been established across Bengaluru under a BOOT model. These centres will function as single-window hubs offering end-to-end civic services, ensuring faster processing and improved citizen experience.
