Indian National Arrested in Nepal With Large Quantity of Prescription Drugs
Indian national arrested in Nepal after police raid uncovers large stock of prescription drugs including Tramadol investigation underway amid rising concern over misuse of controlled substances in region.

An Indian national has been taken into custody in Nepal after police seized a significant quantity of prescription drugs during a targeted operation. The arrest was made in Koshi province following a tip off that led authorities to a rented accommodation.
The accused, identified as Mohmad Sahanewajak, aged 29 and originally from Bihar, was apprehended in Itahari of Sunsari district. During the raid, police recovered around 50,000 capsules of Tramadol and 9,520 capsules of Dicyclomine from his possession.
Officials stated that the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, which prompted a search of the premises. Following the seizure, the accused was detained and further investigation has been initiated to determine the source and intended distribution of the drugs.
According to authorities, Tramadol is a controlled opioid analgesic and is only available through prescription due to its potential for misuse and addiction. Concerns over its illegal circulation have been growing in recent years, prompting stricter monitoring.
The arrest comes shortly after Nepal police detained multiple individuals in separate operations across the country. Among them was a teenager in Kathmandu found carrying a smaller quantity of Tramadol tablets along with cash, highlighting a broader issue related to the unauthorized handling of regulated medicines.
Officials are continuing their probe to uncover possible links to larger networks and to ensure stricter enforcement against the illegal possession and distribution of such substances.
