France Eases Travel for Indians with Visa Free Airport Transit Policy
France introduces visa free airport transit for Indian travellers, boosting mobility, strengthening India France ties, easing international connections, and reflecting growing strategic partnership between the two nations in 2026.

In a significant move aimed at simplifying international travel, France has officially rolled out visa free airport transit for Indian nationals. The development means Indian passengers transiting through French airports will no longer need a transit visa, provided their journey remains within the airport and is entirely by air.
The announcement was confirmed by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighting that the policy has come into effect from April 10, 2026. The decision had been agreed upon earlier during high level discussions between Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron, reflecting a steady push to enhance travel and diplomatic cooperation.
Officials noted that this step is more than just a travel convenience measure. It underscores the deepening relationship between India and France, which has evolved into a Special Global Strategic Partnership. The easing of transit norms is expected to encourage smoother movement of people, particularly students, business travellers, and tourists using France as a major international hub.
The Ministry described the move as a reflection of mutual trust and growing alignment between the two nations. It is also seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen people to people connections, making travel routes more accessible and efficient for Indian citizens heading to Europe and beyond.
During the same briefing, the Ministry also addressed maritime safety concerns involving Indian linked vessels in the Persian Gulf. Authorities confirmed that several Indian ships have safely exited sensitive regions, while others continue operations under close monitoring. Indian nationals aboard foreign vessels involved in reported incidents were said to be safe.
Meanwhile, India continues to engage with global partners on key security matters, including efforts at the United Nations to strengthen international cooperation against terrorism. Officials reiterated that discussions are ongoing to ensure broader consensus among member states on tackling global threats effectively.
The visa free transit policy stands out as a practical outcome of strong diplomacy, offering immediate benefits to travellers while reinforcing long term bilateral cooperation between India and France.
