Mercedes Unveils Updated EQS Electric Sedan With Extended Range and Faster Charging
New luxury electric sedan promises over 900 km driving range, improved efficiency, faster charging capabilities, refreshed design elements, and advanced lighting technology to strengthen Mercedes position in premium EV segment globally
Luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz has introduced an upgraded version of its flagship electric sedan, the Mercedes Benz EQS, aiming to push the boundaries of range, efficiency, and in car technology in the premium EV space.
One of the biggest highlights of the updated EQS is its claimed driving range. The company says the sedan can deliver up to 926 kilometers on a single charge under WLTP testing conditions, placing it among the longest range electric vehicles currently available. This improvement comes alongside enhancements in battery efficiency and overall performance.
The new model incorporates an advanced 800 volt architecture, a move designed to boost energy efficiency and reduce charging time. With support for up to 350 kW DC fast charging, the vehicle can gain roughly 320 kilometers of range in just about ten minutes, making long distance travel more practical for electric car users. The EQS is equipped with battery packs going up to 122 kWh capacity.
Performance has also been refined through the addition of a two speed gearbox on the rear axle. This setup helps balance quick acceleration at lower speeds with better efficiency during highway driving, addressing a common challenge in electric sedans.
Design updates give the new EQS a more assertive road presence. It features a larger faux grille, a sculpted bonnet, and redesigned daytime running lights integrated with the iconic Mercedes star. The upgraded digital lighting system not only enhances visibility but is also said to reduce power consumption significantly, improving overall efficiency.
Alongside the EQS update, the company continues to expand its electric portfolio. The recently introduced Mercedes Benz GLC EV reflects the same focus on advanced technology and performance. Built on the brand’s EQ platform, the electric SUV comes in both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive variants, offering strong power outputs and fast charging support.
Inside, Mercedes is emphasizing a more immersive digital experience. The GLC EV features a massive MBUX Hyperscreen setup that spans across the dashboard, combining driver display, infotainment, and passenger screen into a single unit. Interestingly, the brand has also brought back some physical controls, responding to user feedback for better usability.
With these updates, Mercedes Benz appears to be strengthening its position in the global electric vehicle market, focusing not just on range but also on real world usability, performance balance, and user experience.
