OnePlus 16 Expected to Feature Upgraded 200 Megapixel Camera and High Refresh Display

Leaks suggest OnePlus 16 could include a 200 megapixel periscope telephoto camera, massive 9000 mAh battery and 240 Hz OLED display, promising premium photography and smooth performance

OnePlus is reportedly gearing up to launch its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, which may succeed the OnePlus 15 introduced last year. Early leaks suggest this device could bring significant upgrades in camera technology, display performance, and battery capacity, aiming to appeal to photography enthusiasts and high performance users alike.

According to Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, tipster Smart Pikachu revealed that the rear camera setup of the OnePlus 16 could include a 200 megapixel Samsung HP5 periscope telephoto camera. This is expected to be complemented by a 50 megapixel primary sensor and a 2 megapixel multispectral sensor, offering versatile photography options including long range zoom and detailed low light shots. The periscope upgrade represents a notable leap from the OnePlus 15, which featured a 50 megapixel Samsung JN5 telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.

On the performance side, the upcoming OnePlus device is rumored to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, paired with a massive 9000 mAh battery. Such a battery, combined with efficient processing, is expected to provide long hours of usage, catering to power users who demand extended endurance for gaming and multimedia.

Display technology may also see an upgrade, with leaks suggesting a BOE X5 1.5K OLED panel supporting a 240 Hz ultra high refresh rate. This would make scrolling, animations, and gaming exceptionally smooth, while an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor is expected to provide secure and fast authentication.

Looking back, the OnePlus 15 launched in India last November featured a 6.78 inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED display with a 165 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1800 nits. It was powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and ran Color OS 16 based on Android 16. The device included advanced cooling technology to support high frame rate gaming up to 165 fps, along with a 7300 mAh battery supporting 120 W wired fast charging and multiple wireless and reverse charging options.

If the leaks hold true, the OnePlus 16 could mark a substantial upgrade in both photography and display technology while also delivering a powerhouse battery, positioning it as a top contender in the flagship segment once officially unveiled.
