UK PM Election Results: Liz Truss was chosen as the UK prime minister and Conservative Party leader by Conservative Party members on Monday. UK PM Election Results: Liz Truss Defeats Rishi Sunak. Former foreign secretary Truss entered the race with lesser chances of winning but defeated her fellow party-member Rishi Sunak, who failed to garner support from Conservative Party members as evidenced by the results.

The chair of the 1922 Committee of the Conservative Party and returning officer Sir Graham Stuart Brady announced the results. Truss will be addressing party members following her victory. UK Foreign Minister and Conservative Party leader Liz Truss was elected as the next UK Prime Minister on Monday. Liz Truss will succeed ousted Boris Johnson as British Prime Minister.

Liz Truss defeated her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, to win the Tory leadership contest. Liz Truss defeated rival Rishi Sunak with 81,326 votes to 60,399 among party members.

Delivering her victory speech, Liz Truss said, “I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party. Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country. I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom’s potential.”

Referring to former UK PM, Liz Truss said, “Boris (Johnson), you got Brexit done, you crushed Jeremy Corbyn, you rolled out the vaccine and you stood up to Vladimir Putin”. Liz Truss concluded her victory speech by promising to deliver. “I know, we’ll deliver, We’ll deliver, We’ll deliver,” Liz Truss said.
