According to WabetaInfo, which tracks WhatsApp features, the new Passkey features have been spotted in WhatsApp’s Android 2.23.20.4 beta.

But users of the latest beta update no longer have access to these features. It is reportedly only being rolled out to a “limited number of beta testers”. In a screenshot shared by Wabetainfo, the new Passkey features are described as a “simple way to sign in securely” to WhatsApp. But that said, it can be used to help sign in to other devices through secure authentication on your primary device.

The concept of logging in using passkeys is not new. Google has already given Passkeys the ability to log into new devices using fingerprint-based biometric authentication. These passkeys are stored securely on your device. Also can be used when biometric authentication is provided. According to the screenshot posted by Wabetainfo, the WhatsApp passkey is said to be stored in the password manager of your device.

This will be the device’s default password store managed by Google with autofill support. Moreover, these features are also expected to be available on the iPhone. Recently, WhatsApp has introduced WhatsApp channel features on its platform. It will allow users to follow official channels of their organizations, interests, or favorite celebrities.
In this directory, users can find channels related to their hobbies, sports teams. Furthermore, users have the option to join WhatsApp channels by following invite links posted in chats, emails or online.
