Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide May Introduce Tablet Like Design in Foldable Segment

The global race in foldable smartphones is heating up, with major brands preparing to push the category further into mainstream adoption. While Samsung continues to lead the segment, competition is quietly building as rivals plan their next big entries.
Reports suggest that Samsung could soon unveil a new addition to its foldable lineup, possibly named Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. This model is expected to launch alongside the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, offering users a different design approach focused on a wider display.
What makes the rumored Wide variant stand out is its tablet inspired form factor. When unfolded, the device is said to deliver a near square screen ratio of 3:4, a noticeable shift from the 6:5 ratio seen in previous Fold models. This change could significantly enhance the experience for reading documents, browsing, and watching content by providing more usable screen space.
Leaked dimensions indicate that the Wide model may measure around 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.9 mm when opened, while the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 could come in at approximately 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm. Although these figures remain unofficial, they point toward Samsung experimenting with form factors to appeal to different user preferences.
The broader display is expected to improve multitasking capabilities, making the device function more like a compact tablet. This aligns with Samsung’s ongoing efforts to blur the line between smartphones and tablets in its premium lineup. The company is likely to showcase these innovations at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Apple is also preparing to enter the foldable market, potentially intensifying competition. Industry reports indicate that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could feature a dual layer glass structure combining ultra thin glass technologies for improved durability. The device is also expected to include an upgraded hinge mechanism designed to reduce visible creases and enable smoother folding.
The rumored foldable iPhone, possibly branded as iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, may offer a 7.58 inch inner display and a 5.25 inch outer screen. Its interface could resemble that of an iPad when unfolded, allowing users to run multiple apps side by side, a feature not currently available on standard iPhones.
With both Samsung and Apple pushing boundaries, the foldable smartphone market is entering a new phase where design innovation and productivity features could define the next generation of mobile devices.
