iQOO has officially confirmed the launch date of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the iQOO 16. The company will introduce the new device in China on September 29 at 7 PM local time. Along with the launch announcement, iQOO has also revealed the phones overall design, giving a clearer picture of what buyers can expect from the new flagship.
The display is already one of the biggest talking points surrounding the iQOO 16. The company claims that the smartphone will be the worlds first phone to feature a 2K resolution display with a 165Hz refresh rate. The panel is expected to measure around 6.85 inches and could offer extremely high brightness levels.
According to the information shared so far, the display may reach a local brightness of 10000 nits, while its global peak brightness is expected to reach 2800 nits. These figures are based on the companys claims and reported specifications, with complete display details expected during the launch.
The panel is also expected to use Samsungs latest 2K LEAD 2.0 technology and M16 luminous material. iQOO has indicated that the iQOO 16 could become the first Android smartphone to use this particular Samsung display material.
Gaming is another area receiving attention. The phone is expected to feature iQOO Q Flex Control technology, which is designed to reduce the delay between a users touch and the corresponding action on the screen. A high refresh rate combined with reduced input latency could be particularly useful for fast paced mobile games.
The design of the iQOO 16 takes a noticeably different approach to the rear camera area. iQOO calls the design language Tomorrow’s Porthole, with the rear camera arrangement giving the phone a futuristic appearance.
Three cameras are positioned on the rear panel within a mechanical style structure. The design is intended to resemble a spacecraft window, giving the camera module a distinctive look compared with conventional rectangular camera layouts.
iQOO has also teased three colour options. The Light Chaser version is particularly unusual, with a holographic imaging technology that produces changing red and blue light effects as the viewing angle changes. The other two variants are called Legend and Racing Track.
Camera specifications are expected to include a 50 megapixel primary sensor measuring 1/1.3 inch. The main camera could be joined by a 50 megapixel ultra wide camera and another 50 megapixel periscope telephoto camera.
The combination would give the iQOO 16 a versatile setup for standard photographs, wider scenes and distant subjects. However, the company has not yet confirmed every camera specification, so some details remain based on reports and leaks.
Performance should also be a major part of the phone. Reports suggest that the iQOO 16 could be offered with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of internal storage. The smartphone is also expected to run Android 17 based OriginOS 7.
Battery capacity could be another standout feature. The iQOO 16 is rumoured to carry an 8400mAh battery, which would give the flagship a particularly large power reserve. Fast charging support is also expected, while wireless charging has been tipped as another possible feature.
The phone could additionally receive IP68 and IP69 ratings for protection against dust and water, although the final certification details will need to be confirmed by iQOO.
With its September 29 launch date now official, attention is shifting towards the remaining specifications and pricing of the iQOO 16. The combination of a high refresh rate 2K display, unusual rear camera design, large battery and flagship hardware makes the upcoming smartphone one of the notable launches in iQOO lineup.
