The Enforcement Directorate is investigating illegal betting on poker and other card games, Chance game, cricket, badminton, tennis, football and other live games.

Meanwhile, the Center on Sunday blocked 22 betting apps and software, including Mahadev Book. It also provides a way to bet on various elections in India. The government said in a statement that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued restraining orders against 22 illegal betting apps and websites, including Mahadev Book and Reddy Anna game.

The move is said to follow after the Enforcement Directorate‘s investigations into an illegal betting app syndicate and subsequent raids on Mahadev Book in Chhattisgarh, exposed the app’s illegal operations. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel from a cash Rs 508 crores to courier sent from the United Arab Emirates by the promoters of Mahadev Book.

The development came days after the ED claimed that the payment had been made. Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar said the Chhattisgarh government could have shut down the illegal app and website long ago, as it had “all the power” to do so.

“The Government of Chhattisgarh had all the powers to recommend closure of the website/app under Section 69A IT (Information Technology) Act. However, they have not done so and no such request has been made by the State Government during the last 1.5 years of investigation.

In fact, the first and only request was received and acted upon by the ED. Nothing prevents the Chhattisgarh government from making similar requests,” the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology was quoted as saying in a statement.
