Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held an expert committee meeting at the Chennai Secretariat on precautionary measures to be undertaken with regards to Covid infection.

The state currently has allowed full relaxation of Covid lockdown norms, except for the cap on the number of people who can attend weddings and funerals. The meeting is being held because of global concern about rising Covid cases in many countries, especially in Asia.

The expert body will recommend to the CM if any restrictions need to be imposed in the state. In the expert committee meeting, the Covid situation in Tamil Nadu was also discussed with health experts. CM Stalin has directed officials to intensify the vaccination drive and vaccinate those who are yet to get vaccinated.

The state has identified all those who are yet to take the first dose and also those who are yet to receive their second dose. According to the government, vaccination is key to fight Covid, and efforts to ensure this have to be undertaken. The state is also focusing on the method of test-track-treat-vaccinate and urging citizens to follow Covid appropriate behaviour, as a way to fight the spread of the virus.

Tamil Nadu on Monday recorded 52 new coronavirus cases with the State capital city of Chennai seeing 19. These added to a total of 34,52,442 till date. There were no deaths. Therefore, the tally remains at 38,025.
