Mangaluru: Health condition worsened by corona: Couple suicide for fear

Mangaluru: A couple who were infected with a coronavirus committed suicide in their apartment in Chitrapur on the outskirts of Mangalore. Ramesh Suvarna (45 years) and Guna R. Suvarna (35 years) from Padubidri. The couple, who lived at Reheja Apartments in Chitrapur, got infected with corona last week. This has worsened the health condition. Fearing that, the couple committed suicide.

Prior to his suicide, they informed mangaluru city police commissioner Shashikumar, Hindu leader Sharan Pumpwell and Satyajit Surathkal regarding committing of suicide and raised Rs 1 lakh for the funeral. He also sent a voice message that the money from the sale of home furniture would be distributed to the poor.

Commissioner Sasikumar is alerted just as the message is coming. He immediately informed the police of Surathkal station. However, Ramesh and Guna committed suicide while the police were on their way. Ramesh Suvarna is employed in a private company. Before death, Guna R. Suvarna wrote a death note. She has had a health problem since childhood. She is having pain of not having a kid after long time of marriage as everyone were asking wherever she goes.

She wrote in the letter as”she has been infected with Covid for the past ten days. The fear of Black Fungus was haunting us. My husband also has Covid. My father, mother, and myself are infected with Covid and they are recovering.

But they should not get disturbed with our funeral. They also said the funeral process should be done in Hindu custom and even apologized to the homeowner. A case has been registered at the Surathkal station.
