Mangaluru Five people died : In a tragedy that occurred in the fish meal factory at Bajpe on Sunday April 17 evening, Mangaluru: Five people died in fish processing factory mishap in Bajpe. Five labourers of West Bengal origin, who got down into the huge tank that is used for cleaning fishes that arrive from various places, died while removing the cleaned fish from the tank.

In total, eight labourers got down into the tank. Three escaped unhurt. The deceased are identified as Nizamuddin, Ummer Farukh, Samiuallah, Sharafat Ali and Meeradullah Islam. Hassan Ali, Mohammed Karimullah and Abhidula Malik escaped unhurt.

As usual the eight labourers got down into the tank that purifies the fish. The exact reason for the mishap is not known. The fish factory is closed after the incident. Senior police officers of Panambur and Bajpe have visited the spot and are investigating further.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar informed that the incident took place when a labourer was loading fish waste into a dumping tank. “The labourer collapsed and seven others tried to rescue him. Hence, eight of them were involved in the incident.”
