Amid a spike in daily coronavirus infections, the Karnataka government has decided to imposed a weekend curfew. Health Minister K Sudhakar said the Weekend Curfew Timings Change would be implemented in the state from 10 pm instead of 8 pm from Friday, January 7. Health Minister K Sudhakar said to media after meeting with covid expert committee today.

Weekend Curfew starting on Friday 10 pm till Monday 5 am in a bid to contain the COVID-19 spread in the state. The weekend curbs come amid the state witnessing an unprecedented spike in daily COVID-19 cases. More than 5,000 infections were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Thursday.

The new cases pushed the overall tally of COVID-19 cases in the state to 30,22,603, while the death toll has reached 38,358 as one more patient succumbed to the deadly virus yesterday.

Karnataka weekend Curfew Check What’s allowed and What’s not:

1. Marriage Functions are permitted to be conducted involving not more than 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places strictly adhering to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and prevailing guidelines issued by the state government.

2. All rallies, dharnas, protests are prohibited during the weekend curfew.

3. All offices will function five days a week from Monday to Friday during this period.

4. The Government Secretariat will run with officials below the rank of Under Secretary at 50 per cent of the working strength.

5. During the weekend curfew, theaters, malls, pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, cinema halls, multiplexes, and auditoriums are allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity. Only those who have taken both doses of a vaccine against COVID-19 will be allowed to enter.

6. Schools in Bengaluru apart from classes 10 and 12 will be shut down for two weeks from 6 January, according to the state government.

7. Swimming pools and gyms shall operate at 50 per cent capacity but entry will be restricted to fully vaccinated persons.

8. Religious places are allowed to open only for Darshan. No seva, etc, are allowed. Entry of people will be restricted to 50 persons at any given time who are fully vaccinated.

9. Malls, shopping complexes, all stand-alone shops, and establishments shall operate as usual during weekdays.

10. The Public transport including BMRCL will operate as per the directions of the Chief Executive of the organization to cater to the needs of people for emergent purposes during the weekend curfew.

11. Sports complexes and stadiums are allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity.

12. No gatherings will be allowed in public places.
