Karnataka records 34,047 new Covid cases, Udupi 591, Dakshina Kannada 782 in 24 hours

Registering a massive spike, Karnataka recorded 34,047 fresh Covid cases and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 5,902 were discharged during the day, taking the tally to 29,83,645. The number of active cases in the state stands at 197982 and the death toll is pegged at 38,431. Udupi 591, Dakshina Kannada 782 cases reported.

The positivity rate in Karnataka has reached 19.29 per cent, the health department bulletin said. Thirty-two police personnel of Kolar and KGF, who were on duty at the Congress’ Mekedatu padayatra have tested Covid-19 positive, the Kolar police confirmed on Sunday. As per police information, Covid-19 infection has been confirmed in a total of 32 policemen who had been deployed for the Congress march for the Mekedatu project.

In view of the rising Covid cases in Karnataka’s Ballari district, deputy commissioner Pavan Kumar Malapati issued an order stating the government, government-aided and unaided schools in the city will remain shut starting Monday. The Covid cases in Ballari crossed the 900-mark and students from LKG to class 10 have been suspended for campus classes till January 23.
