Mangaluru: The norms for Covid-19 regulations imposed in border districts will be relaxed after an assessment following the Dasara celebrations, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday.
Bommai, who arrived at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) here, said soon after Dasara, the government will conduct an assessment meeting and then take a call. The decision on reopening of primary schools also will be taken, he added.

On the rising moral policing cases in Dakshina Kannada district, he said everyone should behave in a responsible manner in society. “We should maintain social harmony and there has to be morality in the society,” he added.
Since fresh Covid-19 cases have been steadily declining and the test positivity rate has been below 0.5% for some time now, Karnataka is likely to reduce its daily testing target. Currently, the government has mandated 1.5 lakh tests a day, but only about 1.2 lakh are conducted.
Sources say the issue of reducing testing was discussed at a meeting of the state’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), which advises the government on managing Covid-19, on Sunday. Experts discussed the difficulties related to testing, and, considering the changed scenario, it has recommended that the government reduce the number of tests.

Sources say the number of tests could now be reduced by as much as 26% to 1.1 lakh. However, the government is yet to issue an official order. Even if tests are reduced, 10% of the total tests will continue to be conducted on children.
