The Indian meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall for the next two days across the state including the coastal Karnataka. Heavy rains are expected in Bengaluru, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Kolara, Ramanagar, Shivamogga and Bellary districts till July 19.

It will be raining until 20 and a Yellow Alert has been announced. Heavy rains are expected in coastal districts from today till June 20, the Yellow Alert has been announced in three coastal Karnataka districts of Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada. IMD issued heavy Rainfall alert are expected today in Bengaluru rural areas, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Hassan, Bellary, Bagalkot, Koppal, Belgaum, Chamarajanagar, Kolar and Ramanagar districts.

While it has been over a week since the southwest monsoon arrived in several parts of Maharashtra, including its capital city Mumbai, the state wide rainfall activity for a majority of this period has remained low. But this looks set to change starting this weekend, with the season’s first heavy rain spell expected to lash multiple Maharashtra subdivisions.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the westerly winds blowing in along the west coast and a trough from North Interior Karnataka to south Tamil Nadu will collectively cause heavy rains across Maharashtra and its neighbouring states for the next five days until June 22 and possibly beyond.

Accordingly, isolated heavy showers have been forecast over South Konkan and Goa from Saturday to Wednesday (June 18-22) and over the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra from Monday to Wednesday (June 20-22).

The southwest monsoon conditions are yet to cover the northeasternmost parts of Maharashtra. However, the state may get engulfed in monsoon completely over this weekend, the IMD’s latest update has indicated.
