Idgah Maidan controversy: Citizens Forum called for bandh, School closed

Idgah Maidan has been in the news for the past few days due to controversy. The dispute which started as a matter of land ownership has now reached a bandh. Chamarajpet Assembly Constituency will be completely closed tomorrow. The Chamarajpet Citizens Union Forum has called for a bandh from 8 am to 5 pm. More than 50 associations and organizations including many pro-Hindu organizations, (Hindu Organization) and pro-Kannada organizations have indicated their support. Therefore, today, more than 20 thousand pamphlets have been distributed by going door to door including school-college, (School-College) bakery, and shops.

This is a voluntary and peaceful bandh so there will be no rally or protest tomorrow. They are going to put pressure on the government by holding a peaceful bandh for just one day. After the bandh, the union has decided to take the next step after observing the government’s move.

What is the demand of Chamarajpet Citizens Union?

Chamarajpet ground should be declared BBMP property. The field should be preserved as a playground. Demand to name Chamarajpet Maidan as Jayachamarajendra Maidan. It should not be entrusted to the Waqf Board for any reason. Ramiti should be created to legally fight the Maidan issue. Demanding permission to celebrate Hindu festivals including Republic Day, Independence Day, Kannada Rajyotsava, Shivratri, Nadahabba Dasara in Chamarajpet Maidan.

Are schools and colleges closed?

The union has requested to close shop fronts, banks, schools and colleges in Chamarajpet. They have appealed to support the bandh by distributing leaflets. A bandh support board has been placed on every shop in Chamarajpet. Playground should be owned by BBMP lines have been put on the shops. It has been implemented everywhere including jewelry shops, grocery stores, bakeries, mechanic shops. In some places, holidays have been announced for private schools and colleges.

Organizers have requested to give holiday to government schools as well. Since this is a politically motivated bandh, Chandrasekhar, a former member of Chamarajapete, has sparked against the union. Because Jamir is a minority MLA, everyone is doing this ahead of the election. This is not the right development. They said that forced bandh is not appropriate, no matter what, our support is only if we fight legally. Chandrasekhar, a former member of the corporation, former member of Chamarajpete ward, expressed the opinion that it is not right to call a bandh without talking to the MLAs.
