If the bill will come more than 200 units then only the residents will have to pay for it otherwise it will be free. The registration for Gruha Jyoti Yojana has already started; the residents of Karnataka must start to fill out their forms to start getting benefits from the scheme.

This scheme is only for a household connection which is why your electricity bill is needed at the time of registration. On Karnataka’s announcement to provide free electricity up to 200 units to all domestic consumers.

The power minister said on Wednesday that the rate will be subsidised only when the average power consumption plus 10% is less than 200 units. If average power consumption plus 10% is less than 200 units, it will be subsidised. Anything over and above that will have to be paid.

Consumers who use more than the allotted units, have to pay for the extra units used. 9% of tax will be included in it, said Karnataka Power Minister KJ George. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced 200 units of free electricity promised by the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.

He clarified that it will not just be restricted to those staying in their own households but will also be extended to the tenants as well under the Gruha Jyoti Scheme. “People should not get confused. We will provide 200 units of free electricity to all households, even if they are staying on rent,” Siddaramaiah said.

Earlier on Monday, Siddaramiah alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is instigating misuse and extravagant use of free electricity up to 200 units scheme. “We are offering free electricity to help the poor and middle-class people of the State who are in distress. We have allowed 10 per cent more free electricity consumption than the average consumption in a year. This has been accepted and welcomed by the people of the State,” he added.
