Flash flood alert in Udupi: Lakshmi Hebbalkar directs officials to take precautions

Flash flood alert in Udupi: Udupi district in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar has directed the Udupi district administration to exercise caution in the light of India Meteorological Department forecasting flash floods in Udupi and many other districts of the state.

The IMD has issued a warning to districts such as Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Maharashtra’s Sindhudurga, Ratnagiri and , North and South Goa that flash floods may occur during the next 24 hours and that necessary precautions should be taken so that people do not venture into danger (unsafe) zones and that sufficient warning should be given to the public.

The minister has directed the officials to take all measures and precautions besides creating awareness among the public about the alert put out by the IMD. Under such circumstances, there are chances of landslides and hence tourists and those villagers living in hilly regions should take precautions.

The minister has directed district administration officials to be watchful of tourists visiting waterfalls and other picturesque locales or those who venture on trekking expeditions. She has warned the officials not to allow tourists near waterfalls and trekkers to proceed with their expeditions.
