Cyclone Biporjoy: Heavy Rainfall Alert in Karnataka for next 3 days

A cyclonic storm “Biporjoy” has developed over the east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Cyclone Biporjoy: Heavy Rainfall Alert in Karnataka for next 3 days.

The system intensified from depression (8.30 am) to deep depression (11.30 am) and a cyclonic storm (5.30 pm) on the same day, June 6, 2023. In the last six hours, the deep depression over the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea moved nearly northwards with a speed of 4 kilometres per hour (kmph).

The cyclonic storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. The IMD predicts a very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 115-125 kmph and gusts of 140 kmph on June 8. A severe cyclonic storm will remain through June 11, shows IMD data. The wind speed is estimated to be 135-145 kmph with gusts of 160 kmph.

As a result the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted of Cyclone Biporjoy in the Arabian Sea, heavy rains are likely to occur on the coasts of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat for three days from today.

The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in the coastal areas for the next four days as a result of the depression in the Arabian Sea. It has also issued a storm warning. Hence fishermen are prohibited from going into the sea.

In this regard, the Udupi district administration has shared information in a press release that there will be a four-day storm in the coastal part of the state due to the drop in air pressure in the Arabian Sea. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain due to this.

As a result of the heavy storm with gale force, fishermen are strictly prohibited from going into the sea. Tourists and locals have been advised not to go to sea and river banks. The Udupi district administration has also warned the residents of low-lying areas to move to safer places in the case.
