Corona Cases Rise in Bengaluru, BBMP issued fresh Guidelines

Amid corona cases surge in Bengaluru in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday imposed fresh guidelines for the apartment complexes and societies.

BBMP said the whole apartment complex will be declared ‘containment zone’ for a minimum of 7 days in case of more than 3 corona cases are detected. In the guidelines, the BBMP said that the residents of the apartment will be tested and the detailed contact tracing and surveillance to be done.

Earlier in the day, BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta said all efforts are being made to handle medical exigencies in the wake of spike in Covid cases which has spurred concerns about hospitalization. However, Gupta insisted that there is no need to panic and outlined the measures taken to contain the spread of the virus and strengthen medical infrastructure.

Giving further details, Gupta said: “There is reason to be concerned, but there is no need for fear. It is a time when one must proceed with caution.” The assurance from the BBMP chief comes at a time when experts warn that daily cases could cross 25k per day in Bengaluru alone in the coming weeks.

Karnataka decided Tuesday to extend the existing Covid curbs such as night curfew and the weekend curfew till January 31, wary of the way the virus is spreading, taking the state’s positivity to 10.30 per cent.  The existing curbs were to end on January 19. Karnataka on Monday announced additional strict guidelines to contain the spread of coronavirus due to Omicron. State extended night curfew and weekend curfew till January end.

The state government has now prohibited all rallies, festivals, dharnas and protests. guidelines also mention Marriage functions are permitted with not more than 200 people in open spaces and 100 people in closed places. The Karnataka government has authorised Deputy Commissioners of respective districts to take a call on School closed, including residential schools closed, and colleges in taluks.
