The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) notched up their first-ever win in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) against the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, March 15. However, it took six games for RCB to open its account. RCB have made their life difficult as far as the qualification for the playoffs is concerned, however, they aren’t out of the race, just yet. WPL 2023: RCB still have playoff chances despite of losing in 5 matches.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally opened their account in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) but it took six games for them to get their first points on their board. The Women in Red came out firing on all cylinders and were turned on from the outset against the UP Warriorz on Wednesday, March 15.

The captaincy was proactive from Smriti Mandhana and after an all-round bowling performance, the youngsters turned it on with the bat as Kanika Ahuja and Richa Ghosh stitched a match-winning partnership of 60 runs to get their side home. The qualification path for RCB might be tough but it’s still not too late and the win might not have come at a better for the Smriti Mandhana-led side.

With Mumbai Indians (MI) already qualified, there are just two spots up for grabs and Delhi Capitals (DC) look on course to seal the second with four wins already in their kitty. And, for RCB to have a chance to qualify in the third spot, they not just need to win their remaining two games against the Gujarat Giants and the Mumbai Indians but also need a few other results to go their way.

RCB need both Mumbai and Delhi to keep winning and win their respective games against Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. Additionally, they would want the Giants to defeat the UP Warriorz so that no other team (apart from the top two) reaches 6 points. However, all these scenarios will only work, if they win their remaining two games.

The team has shown that it has quality but it needs players to put their hand up in crunch situations to get them out of the trouble as there is still a chance and RCB would want to capitalise on whatever is remaining. The win has already seen them jump up from the fifth spot for the first time as they finished the game with two overs to spare. Now with a win under their belt, the RCB will be dangerous for other teams and the Giants, who are now at the bottom will have to be wary of them.
