WPL 2023: RCB Playoffs chances scenario; Can RCB still qualify for playoffs?

WPL 2023 sees five teams – RCB, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants – battle for the coveted title. Each team will play the remaining four teams in double round-robin format with the top three progressing to the next round. WPL 2023: RCB Playoffs chances scenario; Can RCB still qualify for playoffs?.

WPL 2023 playoffs will see the top three teams contest in two matches – Eliminator and the Final – to decide the winner of the inaugural season. The table topper gets a direct entry to the final, while second and third placed teams battle in the eliminator to book their spot in the summit clash.

As it stands, Mumbai Indians, who unbeaten in 5 to occupy the top spot, have qualified for the playoffs. MI are followed by Delhi Capitals, who have won four and lost one, while UP Warriorz has won two and lost two to take the third spot. Gujarat Giants also has won one and lost four so far.

RCB, on the other hand, suffered five back-to-back losses and were rooted at the foot of the table with an inferior Net Run Rate as well. But they finally registered two wins to move to the fourth position.

RCB lost their campaign opener to DC by 60 runs and followed that with 9-wicket thrashing by MI. In their third match, RCB suffered an 11-run defeat to Gujarat Giants, who were also winless in two before the match on Wednesday (March 8).

RCB lost their fourth match also to UP Warriorz and DC did the double over RCB in the fifth match. In the sixth match, however, they sealed their first win of the season against UP Warriorz and followed that up with a comprehensive win.

With superior NRRs, MI and DC are likely to finish in the playoff spots. UP Warriorz seem to be the other team that will clinch the third spot along with Gujarat Giants and RCB, who are mathematically still alive, but have an uphill task.

Smriti Mandhana-led RCB squad that features the likes of Ellyse Perry, Sophie Devine, Megan Schutt, Richa Ghosh, Meghana Singh and Heather Knight have failed to live up to the hype so far. Only Perry, Knight and Devine have made contributions, but the rest have not made any notable contributions so far. Apart from Shreyanka Patil, the other uncapped Indian players also have failed.

Meghana Singh and Megan Schutt have been less effective due to lack of swing at the Brabourne Stadium. The RCB bowling has conceded over 200 two times and also let Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz chase down targets in quick time.

After losing five in six, can Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have one of the best squad in the WPL, live up to the expectation and still reach the playoffs?

RCB Playoffs Qualification Scenario in WPL 2023

After UP Warriorz victory over Mumbai Indians, RCB’s chances were dented, but they are still mathematically alive in the race to finish third. To finish third, RCB will need to beat MI. And most importantly RCB will need Gujarath Gaints and Delhi Capitals to beat UPW by a big margin.
