Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly picked his ODI squad for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were among the 15 players who had recently returned from injury but had yet to prove their match fitness.
World Cup 2023: Total 10 teams are participating in this year’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and each of these ten teams will play two warm-up 50-over games in lead-up to the start of the CWC 2023 which will begin on October 5. Sourav Ganguly not selects this IPL Captain in his ODI squad.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly picked his ODI squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were among the 15 players who had recently returned from injury but had yet to prove their match fitness.
Sourav Ganguly went with a strong batting lineup for the men in blue in the top order of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan, and then had experience in the middle order of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav. Ganguly picked Kishan and Rahul as wicketkeeping possibilities, while Hardik Pandya was named vice-captain.
Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel were the spin all-rounder possibilities, with Kuldeep Yadav serving as the squad’s sole pure spinner. Ganguly did not pick Tilak Varma and Yuzvendra Chahal into the side but said that if any of the players turned unfit then they would be his first choice.
No place for Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson in Ganguly’s squad:
However, the omission of Sanju Samson has raised eyebrows. Despite his impressive ODI record of 390 runs in 12 innings at an average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.00, Ganguly has opted to leave out the Rajasthan Royals’ star. The decision to overlook Samson, who was earlier named a reserve for the Asia Cup 2023, has sparked discussions on the reasoning behind the move.
