Sunrisers Hyderabad Shubman Gill breaks Sachin Tendulkar record

Gujarat Titans batsman Shubman Gill scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) ton in match 62 against struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad and broke a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar. Sunrisers Hyderabad Shubman Gill breaks Sachin Tendulkar record.

Gill now holds the record for scoring the quickest fifty in the IPL without hitting a six. Batting for the Gujarat Titans, 23-year-old Gill scored the fastest half-century of his career coming off just 22 balls. Notably, Gill did not hit even a single six during the innings while hitting nine fours.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar held this unique record for scoring the fastest half-century without hitting a six. In 2010, Sachin scored a half-century off 23 balls against Delhi Daredevils. The top-order batsman is having a breakout season this will with 576 runs in 13 matches this season so far.

His average is a whopping 48 while the strike rate is 146.19, both a personal best for him in IPL. The right-hand batter has also hit four fifties and a hundred in 2023 and has remained not out once.

Overall, the former U-19 star is having a dream 2023, having scored a century in each format of the game. That is, Tests, ODIs, T20Is and now in the IPL. Interestingly, Gill’s century in Tests, T20Is and IPL have all come at Ahmedabad, showing his liking for the venue.

Shubman went on to achieve some other milestones during the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The star India opener went on to score his first century in the IPl in just 56 balls.

Gill has now become the sixth player to score a century in IPL 2023 after Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Iyer, Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Prabhsimran Singh.

Gill also became the first player to score 1,000 runs for Gujarat Titans while also going past the 500-run mark in IPL 2023. It is the first time that the GT opener has managed to score more than 500 runs in an IPL season. Shubman scored 440 runs in IPL 2020, 478 runs in IPL 2021, and 483 runs in IPL 2022.

Shubman Gill also became the highest run-scorer at a single venue in IPL 2023. Gill scored 400 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in this year’s IPL. Second on the list is New Zealand’s Devon Conway, who scored 350 runs in his seven innings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
